InfoZen Completes Initial Phase of NASA Web Services Cloud Migration
BETHESDA, Md., Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- InfoZen, a leading cloud broker and integrator that provides mission-critical IT services to the public sector, announced today that it has completed the first phase of NASA's WESTPrime web migration to a new cloud-based open source content management system powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). InfoZen successfully migrated 110 NASA websites and applications, including NASA.gov, and over one million pieces of content to the new cloud environment in just 22 weeks. The move is saving NASA more than 25 percent in monthly operations and maintenance costs and has streamlined application modernization within a secure, FedRAMP-compliant environment.
With more than 1,500 public-facing websites and 2,000 intranets, extranets and applications, NASA.gov is just a small component of the web infrastructure that NASA has modernized. The evolution from a proprietary content management system to a cloud-based open source model has enabled new levels of collaboration across geographically dispersed NASA facilities and critical partners throughout academia and industry. The shared services approach is delivering new levels of transparency into IT performance while empowering the organization's content creators to update online assets in minutes rather than hours.
"WESTPrime provides a cloud-based environment for NASA to efficiently and securely deliver content and applications to employees, contractors, researchers, and partners across the U.S. and around the world," said Roopangi Kadakia, NASA Web Services Executive. "NASA is happy to have this initial migration completed and looks forward to leveraging the WESTPrime contract for future rapid deployments of web applications in the cloud."
The cloud-based model provides NASA leadership with new levels of insight into overall IT performance, enabling the organization to focus resources on applications that are delivering value and consolidating those that aren't. The InfoZen LaunchRAMP® Enterprise Cloud Broker Solution delivered the proven and repeatable methodologies required to complete the project within the aggressive timeframe, achieving rapid application deployment and migration within a secure, highly available AWS hosting environment.
"NASA continues to set the standard for IT innovation in the public sector," said Raj Ananthanpillai, InfoZen's Chairman, CEO and President. "By leveraging cloud-based, open source technologies through our LaunchRAMP® solution, NASA's web services have become more agile, more efficient, and more secure in a very short period of time."
The new cloud-based infrastructure will enable NASA.gov to rapidly scale to handle the 600,000 unique visits per day and 140 million unique visits per year that the site receives. To ensure the highest levels of security, InfoZen worked with NASA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to develop a comprehensive risk-based cloud security program based on NASA, FISMA and FedRAMP standards and requirements.
