Competing in multiple local rounds, Team Vertigo won the Bulgarian national competition and heads to the Worldwide Finals in St. Petersburg, Russia, July 8 – 11, 2013. The team is entered into the World Citizenship category which honors software applications with the greatest potential to make a positive contribution to the betterment of humanity.
"Team Vertigo is comprised of an incredible group of student developers who seek to impact the world through technology," said Dean Guida, CEO of Infragistics. "Mentoring these students is both a privilege and an opportunity for Infragistics to give back to our community. Through Imagine Cup, we can impart our knowledge and insight to students who are eager to develop and test new skills in a challenging and competitive environment."
The Driving Mate app is targeted at the millions of car owners who lack the necessary information or motivation to drive efficiently. Driving M8 encourages eco driving; the app's engine performance and gear shifting data collection and analysis features help drivers to better manage their fuel consumption, which in turn leads to reduced gas bills for the driver and reduced harmful emissions for the atmosphere. Connected to a cloud platform, the app encourages drivers to share efficiency achievements and compare notes with other app users.
"Imagine Cup is the beginning of a lifelong journey for a young entrepreneur, inventor, designer, developer or innovator," said John Scott Tynes, Imagine Cup competition strategy and development manager. "With the evolution of Imagine Cup, we're further inspiring students from all academic backgrounds to collaborate on applications and seize opportunities post-Imagine Cup to polish their applications, gain the support they need to bring their technology to market, and fully realize their potential to impact their local communities and the world."
"We congratulate Team Vertigo on their country win and wish them the best of luck in the Worldwide Finals," added Guida.
