BALTIMORE, Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingenuity Health, a service of Ameritox, Ltd., and a leading provider of monitoring solutions to behavioral health clinicians, today announced new clinical research studies that examine the rate of medication non-adherence and the use of illicit substances and non-prescribed drugs in patients prescribed antipsychotic drugs. The research explores the resulting treatment outcomes and highlights the utility and value of urine drug monitoring in patients diagnosed with serious mental illness.

"The treatment of those suffering from major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia is complicated enough as it is – but throw potential medication non-adherence and abuse of illicit drugs into the mix and the risks for patients and those around them skyrocket," said Tom Smith, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Ameritox. "Urine drug monitoring can help remove some of the guesswork clinicians have to make in treating patients, which can lead to better clinical outcomes."
The research will be presented in poster form on Friday, Sept. 11 from 1:30-2:30 pm at the U.S. Psychiatric and Mental Health Congress held in San Diego. The posters are titled: "Adherence to Treatment With Antipsychotic Medications Among Patients With Schizophrenia, Major Depressive Disorder, or Bipolar Disorder;" "An Evaluation of Urine Drug Monitoring in the Treatment of Patients With Serious Mental Illness;" "Predictors of Medication Adherence Evaluated by Urine Drug Monitoring in Patients Prescribed Antipsychotic Agents;" and "Value of Comprehensive Urine Drug Monitoring in Patients Prescribed Antipsychotic Medications."
In addition to talking with members of the Ingenuity Health clinical research team during the poster session, Congress attendees are welcome to meet with staff by visiting the Ingenuity Health hospitality room, located in Room 23A at booth #530.
