New analysis finds the average program grew 28% in one year, while leading programs operate across nearly four times as many product families
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Innovative Health, a leader in single-use device reprocessing, today announced the publication of The Reprocessing Performance Benchmark, the first edition of a new industry benchmark series designed to help electrophysiology leaders assess the growth and maturity of their reprocessing programs. Drawing on device-level utilization and purchase records from participating U.S. electrophysiology programs, the report gives hospitals practical reference points for evaluating performance and identifying where additional opportunity may remain.
The inaugural report finds that the average program increased reprocessed-device utilization by 28% in the latest full year. That growth came from two sources: an 18% increase in the number of distinct products used and deeper utilization of products already adopted. The finding shows that strong programs expanded both the breadth of their portfolios and the use of reprocessed devices within each product family.
The analysis also reveals a wide gap between an average program and a leading one. The average participating program used 213 reprocessed devices across seven product families. A 90th-percentile program used 2,049 devices across 27 families, nearly 10 times the device volume and almost four times the portfolio breadth.
"Hospitals often know whether their reprocessing volume is rising, but they have had no clear way to judge whether the program is keeping pace with what is possible," said Rick Ferreira, CEO of Innovative Health. "This benchmark gives electrophysiology leaders a more useful frame of reference. It shows what healthy growth looks like, where leading programs are operating differently, and which parts of the portfolio deserve a closer look."
Among the report's key findings:
- Growth should be expected. The average program expanded reprocessed-device utilization 28% in one year.
- Leading programs operate at a different scale. The 90th-percentile programs used 2,049 devices across 27 product families, compared with 213 devices across seven families for the average program.
- Utilization remains concentrated. Ten product families account for 65% of all reprocessed products used, indicating that additional growth will require expansion beyond the most established parts of the portfolio.
- Several categories remain under-adopted. Mapping catheters were used by 49% of participating facilities, transseptal needles by 33%, and intravascular ultrasound devices by 31%. By comparison, diagnostic catheter adoption reached 95%.
- New technologies diffuse at radically different speeds. Leading pulsed field ablation device use grew 1,230% in 12 months compared to 135% growth for slower-diffusing radiofrequency devices. At the same time, 85% of catalogue items in the lifecycle analysis had seven or more years of meaningful volume.
Together, the findings describe an EP market moving on two timelines. New technologies can alter utilization within months, while proven products can remain clinically relevant for a decade or longer.
"A reprocessing strategy cannot be built only around last year's purchasing patterns or the newest device entering the lab," Ferreira said. "Hospitals need the operating discipline to broaden a program while continuously reassessing the portfolio. The data in this report makes both opportunities visible."
The Reprocessing Performance Benchmark includes nine implications that hospitals can test against their own program data. The full report can be downloaded here.
