The report, Communications Excellence: Tactics Used by Executives to Increase Organizational Effectiveness, identifies the preferred channels and tools for communicating as well as optimum communication frequencies and approaches for both internal and external communications.
In an encouraging metric for organizations that reach out externally to potential customers or partners, the study found that a majority of participants - 68 percent - said they were either very interested (8 percent) or interested (60 percent) in receiving general communications from external sources. Further, 50 percent said they prefer to get work-related external communications before 9 a.m. (another 25 percent said they prefer between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.).
The timeliness of the research project was apparent - it drew participants from 162 companies across more than a dozen industry sectors. The 106-page study presents a wide array of insights across a number of critical communication fronts. Key study objectives were:
- Benchmarking communication tools and usage frequency organizations utilize for external communication
- The preferred and most effective channels for external communication
- The types of internal communication most popular with executives
- The preferred medium for internal communication
- Effective ways to measure internal communication effectiveness
This new report will help the organizations improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their internal and external communication approaches and processes. The study also provides key insights and metrics across a variety of internal and external communication issues such as preferred platforms for communicating with peers, superiors and subordinates; preferred formats for reviewing business-related information from external sources and what types of information participants wanted to receive from internal sources.
