DES MOINES, Iowa, Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Recently, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed into law HB 2638, giving Oregon State Police oversight authority over ignition interlock providers. Under the law, local authorities will be responsible for certifying as well as inspecting interlock installation centers and will receive additional funding for state troopers whose core responsibility will be to ensure interlock compliance among drunk driving offenders.
Kimberly Williams, CEO of Intoxalock, released the following statement:
"Intoxalock supports Governor Brown and the Oregon state legislators' decision to more aggressively pursue the enforcement of drunk driving penalties. Making local law officials a more integral part of the process in addition to more funding specifically for successful compliance is smart policy. Passing HB 2638 demonstrates Oregon's commitment to best-in-class DUI safety legislation and we encourage other states to follow suit."
Since 2010, across the nation, interlock devices have prevented more than 1.77 million attempts to start a vehicle by somebody with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 and above.
