SAN DIEGO, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Iomega, an EMC company (NYSE: EMC) and a global leader in data protection, today announced the U.S. launch of a new generation of ScreenPlay(TM) HD Media Products, including the top of the line Iomega® ScreenPlay(TM) Director HD Media Player, a feature-rich HD media player that makes it easy to browse your home network for content to watch on the TV, and also incorporates the Roxio CinemaNow(TM) entertainment platform from Sonic Solutions® (Nasdaq: SNIC), giving consumers instant access to buy or rent movies and other premium entertainment from the Internet to view on your TV.
The new family of Iomega ScreenPlay HD Media Player products, on display at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (Booth # 31823, South Hall 3), represents the most versatile multimedia product offerings in the market today: three different products with different features at different prices. The ScreenPlay family of products includes something for everyone that wants to enjoy their videos, photos, music and all of their digital content on the TV, as well as the additional feature on select ScreenPlay HD Drives that enable renting or purchasing premium content from the Internet -- all without being connected to the computer.
"As the world's leader in HD media players, Iomega has changed the way consumers experience digital content on their home networks," said Jonathan Huberman, president of Iomega and the Consumer and Small Business Products Division of EMC. "In Europe, our ScreenPlay products are best sellers that set the standard in the category. In the U.S., our new ScreenPlay HD Media Player products take that excellence to the next level with the addition of the Roxio CinemaNow online entertainment option, as well as exciting new high definition capabilities, greater compatibility with the most popular media file types, an improved user interface, wireless capabilities and so much more. More than ever before, consumers can sit on the sofa rather than in front of the PC and enjoy all of their multimedia content with Iomega's new ScreenPlay HD Media Player products."
Dave Habiger, president and CEO, Sonic Solutions, said, "It's exciting to see Iomega launching their new family of ScreenPlay HD media players, giving users a menu of great features that includes our Roxio CinemaNow online entertainment experience. For ease and enjoyment, there's nothing quite like digital entertainment in the livingroom. Users of the Iomega ScreenPlay Drive will appreciate how convenient it is to sit in front of the television and rent and buy premium content from the Internet through the CinemaNow platform."
Iomega ScreenPlay HD Media Player products create a convenient link between the home network and the home theater, giving users an easy way to enjoy their digital content from the best seat in the house. Users simply store content on the ScreenPlay's hard drive and then use a new intuitive remote to play the content on their large screen TV.
The Roxio CinemaNow entertainment platform incorporated into the new ScreenPlay Director HD Media Player products (available only to U.S. consumers), gives users instant access to buy or rent movies and other premium content via the Internet to watch on standard and high definition televisions.*
"With Roxio CinemaNow, consumers will be able to access premium content directly from Iomega's ScreenPlay HD Media devices," said Huberman. "Now U.S. consumers can rent or buy movies over the Internet without needing their computer or ever leaving the livingroom. We are excited to partner with Sonic Solutions to add this functionality to our industry leading ScreenPlay line up and further differentiate our products from others in the marketplace."
