Iron Mountain Opens Secure Federal Storage Facility Near Joint Base Andrews

SUITLAND, Md., Feb. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Iron Mountain Incorporated ® (NYSE:IRM), the leading global provider of storage and information management services, today announced the opening of a secure, state-of-the-art federal records center in Suitland, Maryland, located at the Andrews Federal Campus, immediately outside the entrance of Joint Base Andrews. The 125,000-square foot facility has a total capacity of 1.5 million cubic feet of record storage, and is Iron Mountain's 10^th facility to meet federal compliance standards for security.

Iron Mountain will commemorate the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony including U.S. Representative Anthony Brown; Maryland Delegates Angela Angel and Dr. Darryl Barnes; and Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker III.

As government agencies seek to minimize their physical footprint and reduce their spending on records storage, the demand for off-site options that satisfy the rigorous requirements for federal records mandated by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has never been higher. In addition to the environmental protection and fire suppression features, the new Suitland location has been constructed as a low-profile facility and includes security features such as 24-hour central station monitoring, alarmed system entry, fenced truck access,  a security card activated gate, and interior and exterior steel doors. In addition, with six NARA-compliant storage chambers, the facility is ideally suited to serve federal civilian and defense agencies located around the Washington, DC region, as well as the private entities who service those agencies.

This is now the company's third NARA-compliant facility in the Washington metropolitan area – joining Fredericksburg and Sterling in Virginia – providing services for information management, digital transformation, secure storage, and secure destruction, and is overall the company's 19^th location in Maryland and the fourth in Prince George's County. When complete, Iron Mountain will have invested more than $10 million to construct and outfit the 125,000 square-foot building. This investment also comes with the opportunity to expand by building additional facilities on the property.

The opening of this facility continues Iron Mountain's momentum in the federal market, following key contract award wins with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the recent announcement that the company's Secure eWaste and IT Asset Disposition services have been added to its U.S. General Services Administration Schedule 36 contract.
