(ISC)2 Opens Nominations for Its Fourth Annual Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements Program

HONG KONG, March 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- (ISC)2(R) ("ISC-squared") today announced the opening of nominations for its fourth annual Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) Program. In an effort to bolster public awareness of information security throughout the region, the 2010 ISLA will recognize an honoree's project which has significantly contributed to building or broadening security awareness within one's own community or beyond within the last 12 months. (ISC)2 is the largest not-for- profit membership body of certified information security professionals worldwide with over 71,000 credentials issued to 66,000 members in more than 135 countries.

The ISLA Program, begun in 2007 as part of (ISC)2's global Awards Program, has recognized over 50 outstanding honorees in over 10 Asia-Pacific economies. The ISLA recognizes the ongoing commitment by information security leaders in Asia-Pacific to build a highly qualified and ethical information security workforce. Professionals can be nominated in three distinct categories:

    -- Senior Information Security Professional  (examples include: Chief
       Security Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, IT Security
       Manager or senior security manager with significant IT security
       management responsibilities) who has significantly contributed to the
       enhancement of the IT security workforce by demonstrating a leadership
       role in any IT security workforce improvement initiative, program or
       project. Candidates in this category should have at least ten years of
       work experience, seven of which are directly related to IT Security.

    -- Managerial Professional for Information Security Project (examples
       include: Chief Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer,
       program/project manager, etc.) who has significantly contributed to the
       enhancement of the IT security workforce by demonstrating a leadership
       role in any IT security workforce improvement initiative, program or
       project within the last 12 months. Candidates in this category should
       have at least ten years of work experience and occupy a senior-level
       position within their organization.

    -- Information Security Practitioner who has distinguished him/herself for
       implementing and/or managing the implementation of a component of a
       security program (examples include: managing a security awareness and
       training program, conducting difficult, complex security evaluations,
       etc.). Candidates in this category should have at least six years of
       work experience, three of which should be directly related to IT
       Security.

A nominations review committee comprised of members from the (ISC)2 Asian Advisory Board (AAB) will review and select honorees from the three categories based upon the selection criteria and eligibility requirements. The AAB is comprised of volunteer, senior-level information security professionals responsible for counseling (ISC)2 on policies, trends and certification needs within the Asia-Pacific region. The 2010 ISLA nominations committee includes the following AAB members:

       Security+, ITIL Foundation, president and founder, ACIS Professional
       Center, Thailand.
    -- Dr Jae-Woo Lee, Fellow of (ISC)2, CISA, CISM, chair professor, Graduate
       School of International Affairs and Information, Dongguk University,
       South Korea.
    -- Chester Soong, CISSP-ISSAP, ISSMP, CISA, managing director of Security
       Consulting Services Limited, Hong Kong.
    -- Freddy Tan, CISSP, vice chairperson of (ISC)2 Board of Directors and
       chief security advisor, Microsoft Asia.
    -- Charles Wale, CISSP, CISA, manager, Southern Region of the Information
       Security Consulting practice in Melbourne, Australia.
    -- Prof Hiroshi Yasuda, DrE, CISSP, professor, Tokyo Denki University,
       School of Science Technology for Future Life, Japan.

    The 2009 ISLA Showcased Honorees are:

    -- Gerard Tan, CPA, ACA, BAcc (Hons), MAISP, PBM, Partner - Advisory,
       PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (Singapore). Mr. Tan was recognized for his
       leadership and vision for taking on the role of president of the
       Association of Information Security Professionals (AISP) during its
       formation.
    -- Lt. Col. Husin Jazri (Retired), CISSP, chief executive officer (CEO),
       CyberSecurity Malaysia (Malaysia). Mr. Jazri was honored for his
       leadership in elevating the profile of CyberSecurity Malaysia to become
       the national cyber security specialist in Malaysia.
    -- HyunCheol Jeong, CISSP, director, Security Technology Department, Korea
       Information Security Agency (KISA) (Korea). Mr. Jeong was honored for
       his leadership efforts in heading an efficient team of R&D to develop a
       high profile for KISA.
