CLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- (ISC)² – the world's largest nonprofit association of certified cybersecurity professionals – today announced its participation in the inaugural WSJ Pro's Cybersecurity Small Business Academy, held at the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California, from October 15-16, 2018. (ISC)2 will provide training on the second day of the Academy, which aims to address a shortfall in practical information for small and medium-sized businesses on how to strengthen their cybersecurity programs.
The Academy's first day consists of discussions, interviews and "Pro Perspectives" that identify the main cybersecurity problems and solutions for small businesses. The second day of training from partner companies will equip attendees with the skills to tackle the problems identified on the first day.
The (ISC)2 track on October 16 will provide training on the following topics:
- Staying informed about the current threats and business impact of cybersecurity risk to organizations
- Building a risk management plan to address identified risks
- Complying with industry standards, regulation and best practices
- Incident detection, response and communications
- Cybersecurity incident response plans
- Implementation, including war stories, challenges and potential solutions
"One of the things large enterprises tell us all the time is that they depend on small to medium-sized businesses to also remain vigilant against cybersecurity threats. Attackers will often target businesses with less sophisticated defensive systems and processes in order to gain access to the data stores of much larger partner organizations," said Wesley Simpson, chief operating officer, (ISC)2. "While our membership consists of IT and cybersecurity professionals working within companies of all sizes, it's also important that senior managers and business owners understand their risk and what goes into a solid cybersecurity strategy. This is the kind of training we will provide in cooperation with the WSJ Pro team."
"For the first time, WSJ Pro will present small businesses with the opportunities for learning, insight and networking we have previously provided to executive of large companies," said Will Wilkinson, general manager of WSJ Pro. "This shows our commitment to playing a part in helping business owners address one of the major risks they face."
