The announcement was made to coincide with the opening of IBC 2016, which is being held in Amsterdam from Friday, September 9th through to Tuesday, September 13th. iWedia exhibits at the show (RAI, hall 5, booth B40) where Teatro-3.5 will be demonstrated running under Android M.

Teatro-3.5 is a complete software solution for STB operated by Android TV. It is based on iWedia's ANDROID4TV framework which extends Android TV with broadcast and multicast Pay TV functionalities implemented as input modules of the Android TV Input Framework (TIF). ANDROID4TV smoothly integrates Pay TV within Android TV. It exposes all the necessary APIs allowing development of a Pay TV application as an Android APK.

The Java APIs of ANDROID4TV for M as well as sample applications making use of the framework have been open sourced (please visit android4tv.iwedia.com to get access to these materials).

Teatro-3.5 is available ported on various chipsets and STB, integrated with various Conditional Access Systems (CAS), and connected to various service delivery platforms and content delivery networks.

The UI/UX of Teatro-3.5 consists in a 2D-animated live TV app called C-More Live. This system app listed by the launcher is fully compliant with Google design principles and gathers all the features of a regular STB app: zapping banner, service list, grid EPG, PVR and Time Shift.

"ANDROID4TV, the key stone of Teatro-3.5, pushes the limits of Android TV beyond OTT allowing it to embrace legacy Pay TV operations that is to say premium TV delivered over broadcast or multicast and secured with a CAS," says Nikola Teslić, CTO at iWedia. "With Teatro-3.5 Pay TV service providers can get the best of Android TV while leveraging it to deliver their own legacy Pay TV services. Moreover, in open sourcing our framework, we ease the creation of genuine TV-centric Android apps".
