Janet Bernier Appointed to Lead Marcum Tax and Business Services Division in New York

NEW YORK, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Marcum LLP today announced that Janet Bernier will assume the responsibility of managing the firm's New York City Tax and Business Services division as Partner-in-Charge.  Bernier, who joins the firm as a Principal, will oversee a team of 50 tax professionals and is responsible for enhancing the firm's tax services and ongoing business development.  Bernier brings more than two decades of experience as a tax attorney and tax consultant, with a specialization in providing solutions for large and middle-market companies navigating a variety of state and local tax issues.

Prior to joining Marcum LLP, Bernier served as the Tax Partner-in-Charge of the New York office for a middle-market firm as the leader of its Tax Specialty Services group.  Earlier in her career, she was a State and Local Tax ("SALT") Partner with a "Big Four" practice.

In addition to working closely with clients, Bernier is a frequent speaker at professional and industry organizations on topics related to economic development incentives and state tax matters.  She has also authored numerous articles and has taught CLE and CPE courses.

Bernier received a Juris Doctorate from St. John's University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
