Jeffrey Kahn Named General Counsel of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia announced today that Jeffrey Kahn has been named Executive Vice President and General Counsel.  In his new position Mr. Kahn will have responsibility for legal strategy decisions, the day-to-day management of the Office of General Counsel, risk management and insurance programs.  Additionally, he will advise the Board of Trustees on governance matters and will continue to provide oversight in the audit and compliance areas.  His appointment is effective immediately.

The decision to name Mr. Kahn General Counsel was made by Steven M. Altschuler, M.D., chief executive officer.  "I am very pleased to place this responsibility in Jeff's capable hands.  He is a proven executive whose judgment and keen legal insight have served this institution well for the past 17 years," said Dr. Altschuler.  "Additionally, the position of General Counsel demands the highest standards of integrity and loyalty, and Jeff possesses both.  I am certain of his ability to guide us on significant issues in the future."

Mr. Kahn joined CHOP in 1994 as an Assistant General Counsel and held various positions in the office of the General Counsel through 2004.  In 2004, he was named Vice President, Compliance & Privacy and Chief Compliance Officer where he was responsible for managing a comprehensive compliance program and for coordinating institutional policies and standards relating to compliance and ethics.  In 2007, Mr. Kahn was named Senior Vice President, Audit, Compliance & Privacy and Chief Audit & Compliance Officer, the position he held until today's appointment as General Counsel.  

Prior to joining CHOP, Mr. Kahn was in the litigation department of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis, from 1987-1994.  He began his legal career as a law clerk to a federal district court judge in the District of New Jersey.  Mr. Kahn received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1986, and his B.A. from Cornell University in 1983.
