John Powers Tapped to Lead Deloitte Defense Sector

WASHINGTON, June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte announced today that John Powers will lead its Federal Defense sector. Powers, a principal in Deloitte Consulting LLP, formerly served as a managing director for Deloitte LLP. Deloitte's Department of Defense (DoD) sector, with approximately 1,200 dedicated practitioners, serves all branches of the military and the DoD.

Powers succeeds General Charles F. Wald (USAF ret.) who has been named vice chairman to the Deloitte LLP board of directors and will continue to serve as a senior advisor to Deloitte's Federal Practice. Wald spent more than three decades in the U.S. Air Force including deputy commander of the U.S. European Command from 2002 until his retirement as a four star general from the military in July 2006.

Powers formerly led Deloitte's Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) restructuring practice in the U.S. and globally. Throughout his career, he has helped to execute some of the largest M&A projects around the globe which have enabled the seamless integration of more than 200,000 professionals. The integrations of several large Government Services practices were carried out under Powers' direction, including Deloitte's integration of the Bearing Point Public Sector practice into the Deloitte Federal Government Services practice in 2009.

Powers is a visiting executive lecturer at the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business on the topic of merger integration. He received his MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management and his bachelor's degree from Brown University. As an undergraduate he received an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship and later served as an Army finance corps officer.
