John Theurer Cancer Center's Dr. Andre Goy to Participate in Prestigious World Economic Forum in Davos

On January 19, Dr. Goy will be leading a discussion on value-based care particularly leveraging digital technology to promote behavioral changes towards patients' engagement in health care, wellness and shared decision making. He also contributed to a white paper that is being published by the previous Industry Agenda Council on the Future of the Health Care Sector summarizing the causes and origins of the underperformance of health systems particularly a clear misalignment across stakeholders.

Dr. Goy will participate in a discussion at Davos with prominent members of the health industry and other fields on leveraging digital technology to promote behavioral changes and patient engagement in health, wellness and shared decision making. Dr. Goy's presentation will stress the importance technology will play in the future of health care shifting toward value-based care.  Value-based care is dependent upon promoting behavioral changes, healthy habits, patient monitoring, patient accountability, preventive care and improved care delivery.

"Over the last two years, as part of the previous Industry Agenda Council on the Future of the Health Care Sector, my colleagues and I have extensively researched the underperformance of health systems. The results of this work was summarized into a white paper, 'Misaligned Stakeholders and Health Systems Underperformance,' led by Dr. David E. Bloom, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health," said Dr. Goy.

This previous council's research focused particularly on non-communicable chronic diseases which have a huge impact globally including diabetes, cancer and mental health. Their research identified misalignment of stakeholders as one of the key barriers to improving health and healthcare. Such misalignments evidently result from a number of factors including differing objectives and perspectives, power struggles, cooperation barriers etc. The white paper also outlines potential solutions to overcoming misaligned stakeholders to help accelerate progress on global health and health care delivery, including: removing obstacles to alignment, developing technical and institutional innovations and creating new models for value-based care particularly through public-private partnerships that can foster the required changes.
