NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The litigation involving the alleged link between ovarian cancer and Johnson & Johnson's Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower talc-based powders continues to move forward in state and federal jurisdictions around the country. Court records indicate that a coordinated proceeding was recently established in California Superior Court, Los Angeles County, for that state's talcum powder docket. The litigation was scheduled to convene a hearing on November 22^nd, at which time document production, in extremis depositions, and other matters pertaining to discovery were to be addressed. Nationwide Talcum Powder Litigation

Court records indicate that more than 2,000 talcum powder ovarian cancer lawsuits have been filed against Johnson & Johnson in courts around the U.S. Plaintiffs allege that the regular and repeated application of Baby Powder or Shower-to-Shower to the female genitals can allow talc particles to enter the vagina and make their way to the ovaries. Over time, this can result in inflammation that may promote the growth of ovarian cancer cells. Plaintiffs further allege that Johnson & Johnson has been aware of studies pointing to such a link for decades, yet neglected to provide any warnings to consumers in order to protect sales of Baby and Shower-to-Shower.

The California talcum powder litigation was established in August 2016. In October, all federally-filed Johnson & Johnson talcum powder lawsuits were centralized in a multidistrict litigation that is currently underway in the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey. By far the largest talcum powder litigation is underway in Missouri Circuit Court in St Louis, where three cases have already gone to trial. In October, the jury hearing evidence in the state's third trial awarded $70 million in compensatory and punitive damage to an ovarian cancer victim who had used Baby Powder as part of her daily feminine hygiene routine for more than 40 years. Two other Missouri trials concluded earlier this year, resulting in awards of $72 million and $55 million for the plaintiffs involved in those cases. (Case No 1422-CC09012-01)
