The Path From Entrepreneur to CEO of a Woman-Owned Business
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- When the 2016 awards for the 50 best workplaces were presented by Inc.com, none of the employees at REP Interactive were surprised that their company had won. Staying happy and productive in the workplace was one of the priorities that guided CEO Judy Gatena's career trajectory. From her start as a small-business owner, career choices have been about quality of life balance as well as opportunities to excel in the marketplace.

"Working with Judy has been truly inspiring. Through her leadership, she's created a family culture at REP, and each project is looked at as a new opportunity for us to collaborate and make amazing content for our clients." -- Nicholas Muntz, Account Manager
Long before "Woman-Owned Businesses" were getting a lot of press, Gatena was establishing herself as a savvy entrepreneur. Her path to success began at the age of 25 when she recognized an opportunity in the burgeoning computer supplies marketplace. Guided by a desire to create a home-based business that would allow for more time around her children, she founded Abacus One Computer Supplies, Inc., a virtual one-stop shop for printer supplies, storage media and other related products. Later, she branched into service and support through partnerships with select data services companies. Through clever marketing strategies and inventory control, Gatena operated very successfully for over 20 years as her company expanded its local service base, competing with big box stores and Internet startups like Amazon.
New Industry, Same Focus
When she joined REP Interactive as President and COO in 2009, it was her personal touch in leadership and client retention that excited the foundation of the new company. Within five years, she had begun making her mark on the industry. Forbes placed her eighth on the magazine's 2013 list of famous multi-generational entrepreneurs. By 2015, REP ranked in the top 15% of the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing companies in the USA. This success helped shift her priorities beyond operations. Gatena became REP's majority owner and the company's CEO, focusing on the long-term vision and strategy for this prolific new media company.
