Kansas Grocery Store Owners Offer Opportunity to Take Advantage of the Rural Opportunity Zones (ROZs) Program
Harvest Market sale opens up access to key ROZs-program incentives - including state income tax exemption and student loan forgiveness
GRAINFIELD, Kan., Nov. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dan and Nicole Godek, owners of the Harvest Market grocery store, hope to attract interest in the purchase of their store with the announcement of the Rural Opportunity Zones (ROZs) Program.
The ROZ program, signed into law on April 11, 2011, is designed to spur economic development and expand job growth by offering the following two key incentives:
- A state income tax exemption for up to five years to individuals who move to a ROZs county from outside the state. Individuals must not have lived in Kansas for the past five years, nor have a Kansas source income of more than $10,000 per year over the past five years.
- Student loan forgiveness of up to $3,000 per year ($15,000 maximum benefit) for individuals who graduate from an accredited post-secondary institution and move to a ROZs county.
"Small town life has been rewarding for me and my family," said Harvest Market owner Dan Godek. "The atmosphere, slower pace, and charm of rural Kansas are refreshing. Plus, we discovered that crime, traffic, oversized classrooms, and foreclosure rates are problems that can be left behind in the city. We have come to love and appreciate small towns and want to share that with others. We believe this is a lifestyle more and more city-dwellers are seeking. That's why we invite interested parties to consider becoming the owner of a great small town business while taking advantage of some of the incentives Kansas has to offer."
