DETROIT, June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, in collaboration with Wayne State University School of Medicine, will present the seventh annual Prostate Cancer Symposium: A National Summit, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, from 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., at MotorCity Casino Hotel Conference Center in Detroit. This year's symposium will welcome representatives and advocates from health organizations across the country. The focus of the symposium will be to update participants about treatment advancements, importance of clinical trials, education, advocacy and survivorship.
The symposium will be led by Elisabeth Heath, M.D., FACP, Patricia C. and E. Jan Hartmann endowed chair in Prostate Cancer Research at Karmanos Cancer Institute and professor of Oncology and Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. She will be joined by several national and international prostate cancer experts, survivors and advocates. Keynote speaker will be outfielder and three-time All-Star Ken Griffey Sr., who is a prostate cancer survivor and advocate with Bayer's Men Who Speak Up program. Griffey encourages men to be aware of symptoms and break the silence when it comes to advanced prostate cancer.
The symposium is free and open to the public, including those who advocate for prostate cancer funding. Pre-registration is required before Sept. 16 to accommodate for food and hand-out materials.

Attendees will hear about updates on PSA screening, biomarker testing, treatment advancements and clinical trials, education and advocacy, and survivorship.
