Ken Jones Ex-Special Forces Adventurer and Mountaineer Joins Nite Watches as an Ambassador

BOURNEMOUTH, England, Dec. 11. 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ex-Special Forces, mountaineer, outdoorsman and motivational speaker Ken Jones is to join the Nite Watches as an owner Ambassador for 2013. Best known for his self-rescue following an avalanche in the Transylvanian Alps in 2003, Jones joined the Unite Community and was invited to become an Ambassador by Managing Director Roger Green.

Ken's defining moment came when struck by a rock carried by an avalanche whilst climbing Moldoveanu, the highest of the Fagaras Mountains. After falling 75 feet during a huge avalanche, Jones was left with a broken leg and shattered pelvis and had to crawl in temperatures as low as minus 17c towards a local village.  It took him three days to descend the mountain crossing icy rivers, windswept slopes and rocky precipices using a combination of excruciating shuffles, rolls and dragging techniques.

Ken's recovery took over two years, and through extensive therapy he learnt to walk again. He has written a book, The Long Drag, about the ordeal: "I really wanted the reader to be there and make the same journey with me, to feel the pain, cold and the sheer desolation of being exposed and injured in a frozen mountain wilderness."

Following the accident he spent time in South American working on disaster relief projects as a translator and demolition expert. More recently Ken has drawn on his experiences to form Avalanche Endurance Events, a company run by a select group of British Special Forces operatives to offer some of the toughest endurance challenges in the UK and US.
