GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas, June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Executive Vice President (EVP) Ron Frank and District 5 Area District Vice President (ADVP) Garner Carey recently announced that Kevin Harless has been promoted to marketing company president (MCP) of UHC of Central Texas.
Harless began his U-Haul career in March 2011 as a field relief manager (FRM) for U-Haul Company of Fort Worth. Less than a month later, Harless transferred to become an area field manager (AFM) for U-Haul Company of Central Texas, the position he held until his recent promotion. Prior to U-Haul, Harless was in the cell phone business for seven years and owned and operated a successful cell phone franchise for nearly five of those years. Before that, he was with Circuit City for four years, primarily as a store director. As president, Harless will oversee all operations of the U-Haul Company of Central Texas, including truck, trailer and storage rentals. Harless's determination and outstanding customer service certainly will drive his team to new levels of achievement.
"Kevin understands the value of creating an outstanding customer-service environment by creating an outstanding U-Haul Team member environment," ADVP Carey stated. "Both are achieved by executing known U-Haul policies, programs and procedures while taking an active interest in our team members' personal and professional development. The outcome of these items is increased transactions, revenue and profits. I look forward to the positive impact Kevin will make leading his new team," Carey affirmed.
In assuming his new role as president, Harless is most excited about the opportunity to be part of a winning team. He is looking forward to learning and developing his own U-Haul knowledge and skill amongst team members who are as equally motivated and success-oriented as he is. Harless knows that U-Haul Company of Central Texas is an outstanding marketing company that has been and will continue to be successful in producing goal-oriented, winning attitudes amongst its team members. Harless believes he can continue to motivate and inspire his team to become the top team in the district. He has his "aces in places" and says, "Now all we have to do is get down, get our hands dirty, do the work, help and wow the customer, and continue to develop premier leadership."
Harless has a plan of action in place, and is determined to reach the many goals he has set for himself as president. One of his main goals is to make sure his team utilizes the programs in place in order to give U-Haul customers the full moving and storage expertise they need to make a confident, assured and well-thought-out move. Harless understands that it's all about giving
U-Haul customers what they want, and not what his team 'thinks' they want. While constantly striving to be moving experts, Harless says his teammates also must remember to listen, hear and act on what the U-Haul customer is saying. He plans on always giving the customer a great experience, and says that he cannot do this without the right people at the right place at the right time, allowing U-Haul Company of Central Texas to serve customers with maximum efficiency and maximum knowledge.
Harless notes that as president another important goal is to provide a better and better product and service to more and more people at a lower and lower cost. He plans on making a commitment to his management team, as well as himself, to lead by example and make exhaustive efforts to ensure that U-Haul Company of Central Texas has trained the finest staff in the U-Haul System. He plans on achieving his many goals through training, hard work and more training, and says that it's all too easy to bark an order at a team member, but it is truly difficult to get in and get your hands dirty and do the work together that is required to help people succeed. Harless thinks that if he can help his team to see obstacles as challenges rather than unmovable barriers, then together they will achieve any goals they aim for.
"I have a great passion for my career, and love the challenge that U-Haul presents. U-Haul is not an easy road, but through hard work, I love the satisfaction I get in knowing that we provide a service for people that changes their lives for the better," Harless said. "I am committed not only to my success but the success of my team, and I will do whatever it takes to help them reach our mutual goals."
U-Haul was founded by a Navy veteran who grew up during the Great Depression. Tires and gas were still rationed or in short supply during the late 1940s when U-Haul began serving U.S. customers. Today, that background is central to the U-Haul Sustainability Program: "Serving the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Our commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle includes fuel-efficient moving vans, neighborhood proximity, moving box reuse, moving pads made from discarded material and packing peanuts that are 100% biodegradable.
