Kodaro Brings Belimo's Energy Valve Optimization Algorithm to the Edge
PLEASANT HILL, Calif., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Kodaro, the building software company, announces today that it has successfully transported the Belimo Energy Valve's optimization algorithm to the edge, making it even easier for facility managers to regulate delta temperature (delta T) and save energy in their buildings.
"Since it was first introduced to the commercial buildings market in 2012," says Jon Schoenfeld, Director of Energy and Analytics at Kodaro, "the Belimo Energy Valve has been widely seen as a revolutionary product that combines a BTU meter, a control valve and a smart actuator to provide incredible insight into a building's energy use, allowing for reduced plant water flow and lower delta T, improving plant efficiency."
The Belimo Energy Valve integrates with a cloud-based application that identifies and configures its optimum delta T setpoint. However, this innovation requires the valve be connected to the internet. In many practical applications of the Energy Valve, BACnet networks have restricted connectivity, or valves are deployed without connecting the IP interface, making it impossible for those devices to ever reach the internet.
Kodaro's analytics team utilized the SkySpark analytics platform to overcome these two challenges and bring the energy-saving optimization algorithm to the edge, where the building operator can run it on-site. Kodaro also established a new feature within the algorithm to automatically collect data and re-set the delta T point to its most optimal based on that data.
Jon Schoenfeld will present this project to the annual SkySpark community event, SkyPosium, in the "Applications at the Intersection of Analytics and Control" session tomorrow, November 14.
Kodaro expands building system connectivity through dynamic software developed for the Internet of Things. We help contractors, controls companies and end-users find value in building data gathered from the edge to the cloud. Our software creates more connectivity between systems, giving increased access to better data, not bigger data. Our goal is to provide actionable analytic information, developed from real-world expertise with all building systems. Learn more at kodaro.com.
