LATINA Style Welcomes Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez as the Honorary Chairwoman of the 8th Annual National LATINA Symposium
WASHINGTON, Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Anna Maria Arias Foundation and LATINA Style, are proud to present the 8th annual National LATINA Symposium at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel located at 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway in Arlington, VA 22202, on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 7:30am to 2:30pm. The Symposium provides a national platform for Latina leaders, entrepreneurs and professional working women to address the status of the Hispanic professional woman in the United States.
The Honorable Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) is this year's Honorary Chair. Congresswoman Sanchez began her congressional career in January 1997 and is currently serving her eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. A recognized leader on military issues and national security issues, Rep. Sanchez is the third highest ranking Democrat and the most senior female member on the Armed Services Committee. She currently serves as the Ranking Member of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, where her top priority is preparing our Armed Forces for a new generation of security challenges. Rep. Sanchez is also a senior member of the Subcommittees on Emerging Threats and Capabilities and founder and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Women in the Military.
The Symposium's feature event is the Distinguished Military Service Awards Luncheon, co-hosted with the Department of Defense. The Anna Maria Arias Foundation in partnership with LATINA Style present the only national awards program honoring Latina military and civilian personnel who through their service have enhanced the role of Latinas in their organizations. We are proud to honor military members and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees who supported the DoD mission, the global war on terrorism, and demonstrated role model qualities and the core values of their respective Military Service and Agency. The President's Award will be presented to Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations, US Navy, for outstanding leadership in promoting diversity among the officer's ranks in the service.
