Law Department Operations Survey Results Announced

CHICAGO, Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The results of the 2010 Law Department Operations Survey, produced by the Blickstein Group and InsideCounsel, were recently announced and include findings with profound implications for legal departments, including: trends in compliance organization, metrics and reporting, driving and implementing law department management strategy, and more.

The Third Annual Law Department Operations Survey is a partnership between Blickstein Group, Inc. and InsideCounsel magazine, the leading industry publication for in-house counsel, and is produced in cooperation with Huron Consulting Group.  Led by an in-house legal advisory board chaired by David Cambria, director of operations of the law department at Aon Corporation, the survey provides legal departments with a consistent platform to benchmark themselves and identify emerging trends in legal department management, and better understand how the largest companies are handling department operations.

The survey contains data compiled from many leading corporate legal departments and was designed by an advisory board of legal department operations directors.

Key findings of the law department operations survey include:

• 62% reported that compliance reports to legal - down from 76% last year
• 90% of law departments now use metrics and reporting to measure success
• 77% reported that driving and implementing change is one of the three the biggest challenges of managing law department operations
• 64% are planning to improve their discovery process in the next 12 months
• 56% are planning to improve or evaluate matter management and/or e-billing in the next 12 months
