Learning to Fully Participate in Life's Events Is the Key to Creating Real Vitality

OAKLAND, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Breema Center today announced that it will offer support for using the 4th Principle of Harmony, Full Participation, during the month of April. Fully participating in each moment is the key to getting the most out of one's life and gaining more vitality. Being more present in daily life provides the opportunity to explore every activity or event with more interest and wholeheartedness. To increase understanding of what it means to fully participate in life, the Center will present a series of classes this month highlighting the principle, including an in-depth workshop about "Full Participation" on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the Breema Center in Oakland.

"The most natural way of moving and living is with Full Participation," said Dr. Jon Schreiber, director of the Breema Center. "Full participation means the body, mind, and feelings are united in a common aim. It means taking a posture of 'Just say yes' moment after moment, toward whatever we are doing. Full participation frees our energy, which is usually occupied with what happened in the past or may happen in the future, and supports us to be free from distractive thoughts, feelings, or sensations. Fully participating means being in harmony with each moment, and that is how one begins to live a harmonious life."

When practicing Full Participation, the emphasis is on seeing how things really are. The more energy we put into doing something, the more we can benefit, even when what we do turns out differently than expected. If our aim is to fully participate, we don't have to compare what we're doing now to what we've done in the past. And rather than seeking to "get things over with," which puts the value on moments we imagine will be more fulfilling in the future, we can allow ourselves to do one simple thing at a time.

However, many influences constantly distract us from fully participating. Breema shows us how to use the body as support to come to the present, even when thoughts or feelings preoccupy us. Interest in being with our activity can generate a new sense of willingness, so we can participate whole-heartedly. Then, instead of succumbing to the tension and inertia that drain our energy and divert our attention from what we want to accomplish, our energy is constantly replenished, and we can focus on what is truly needed in the moment. We may also have a chance to see that see our ideas and assumptions about doing something are different than our actual experience of doing it, and even the most ordinary activity is imbued with a new sense of aliveness and meaning.
