Following the crash, Smith had exchanged words with the driver of the Hummer who rammed into him, and then the driver "took out a handgun and shot him several times," according to a New Orleans Police Department spokesman. Suspect Cardell Hayes, 28, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
