Lehigh Technologies Wins ICIS Innovation Awards 2018

ICIS (www.icis.com), the trusted information provider for the global chemical and energy industries, today reveals that Georgia, US-based Lehigh Technologies has been chosen as the overall winner in the ICIS Innovation Awards (www.icis.com/awards) for 2018.

Lehigh Technologies' entry for its innovative approach to end-of-life tyre recycling using cryogenic grinding of tyre rubber to produce micronised rubber powder (MRP), also won the category for Innovation with Best Benefit to Environment or Sustainability, sponsored by US chemical distributor Maroon Group.

MRP, marketed by Lehigh as PolyDyne and Microdyne, can be used in the manufacture of new tyres, as well as other high-performance rubber products, and thus enables the move towards the circular economy in the tyre industry. The material, with carefully controlled particle size, has already been used in the manufacture of over 500m new tyres.

The innovation was judged the clear winner by the panel of five leading industry innovation experts. The judges commented on its commercial success in the market, the scale of the benefits it offers and the fact that the product has been engineered in an easy-to-use form.
