LiquiDonate Named to TIME's 2025 Best Inventions List
Retail returns and excess inventory solution is honored for its innovation in sustainable technology
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- LiquiDonate, a retail-tech company that helps retailers sustainably manage unsellable returns and excess inventory, has been named to TIME's Best Innovations for 2025 list, honoring its groundbreaking work in sustainable retail logistics software for unsellable inventory. LiquiDonate is the first and only software solution that seamlessly matches and moves unsellable inventory to nonprofits, schools, and other upcycling innovators, advancing a circular economy.
LiquiDonate successfully makes sustainability easy and cost-effective for retailers with its unique 4,000+ nonprofit network. Nonprofits "shop" on LiquiDonate for excess and unsellable inventory posted by retailers. When there is a match, the items are shipped hyper-locally - saving money compared to sending them to a distant landfill. Furthermore, the company also provides retailers with donation receipts they can use for tax benefits.
"Being recognized by TIME as one of the Best Innovations of 2025 further validates our mission to prove that sustainability can be charitable, scalable and profitable," said Disney Petit, CEO and founder of LiquiDonate. "This honor is not just for us, but for every brand, nonprofit and individual who is reimagining retail excess as a resource for community good."
Founded in 2021, LiquiDonate has helped more than 150 brands donate more than 12 million items to nonprofits and schools. Retail partners include Room & Board, Baggu, Tuft & Needle, Honeylove, Luxome, Parks Project, Liquid Death, and more. Its unique approach ensures donations are made locally whenever possible, reducing shipping waste and costs, while providing retailers with tax-benefit documentation.
Petit was inspired to create LiquiDonate by her own passion and vision to eliminate landfills. As an active volunteer in her local community, colleagues would often come by her desk and ask if a non-profit could use this or that. Quickly realizing she had a knack for finding a home for anything, the evolution of LiquiDonate began. To impact the world at scale and make a dent in the 11.3 million tons of items sent to landfills each year, she knew she would have to get major brands to change their practices with a seamless and cost saving solution. To date, LiquiDonate has kept over 12.3 million pounds of goods from landfills.
"This honor from TIME helps highlight the urgency of our work in diverting goods from landfills and delivering them to those in need," continued Petit. "We're proud to continue our work to transform excess inventory into community impact."
Each year, TIME recognizes groundbreaking inventions that are making the world better, smarter and even a bit more fun in its Best Inventions issue. This year's special print issue will be released on December 12, 2025. Past honorees include LG, Google, Dyson, Samsung, Bose, Sony and more.
