Longview Advisors Announces Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) Workshop at 2012 3D Collaboration and Interoperability Congress
Update On Comprehensive Digital Enterprise Initiative
LOVELAND, Colo., Jan. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Longview Advisors, organizers of the annual 3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress (CIC), today announced a special workshop focusing on the Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) as part of the 2012 event, to be held May 21 to 23, 2012 in Denver, Colorado (www.3dcic.com). Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) infrastructure, developed by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), provides a digital thread throughout the entire product lifecycle. The workshop will cover topics of particular interest to engineering and IT managers who may be planning or implementing processes to drive a digital MBE/MBD (Model Based Definition) vision for more effective global collaboration in product development and manufacturing, especially when they deliver technical data to government agencies.
The MBE Workshop will comprise the following topics:
- Downstream Supplier Challenges Within MBE – Results and status of current pilot programs aimed at substantially reducing the time and resources expended to exchange engineering and product data, while greatly improving the quality of all types of data needed by each user community throughout the Total Product Life Cycle, "Cradle to Cradle." Presenter: Ric Norton, DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) and DEDMWG (DOD Drawing and Modeling Working Group).
- PDM/PLM Validation Handbook – A DOD and NIST sponsored guidebook for effective validation of accuracy and equivalency of exchanged digital data. Presenter: Roy Whittenburg, Project Manager, UTRS, supporting the Army's Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC).
- Supplier & CAD Vendor Support of MBE Methods – Strategies for small to large suppliers to understand and integrate into MBE, and the latest on CAD software vendor support for MBE standards. Presenter: Rich Eckenrode, president of Recon Services, bringing more than 35 years of experience in manufacturing engineering and operations organizations, and heavily involved with MBE-related initiatives, including several Design For Manufacturability projects.
- MBE Implementation Roundtable – an interactive dialog between attendees and speakers/experts on the MBE initiative, best practices and implementation.
The MBE Workshop will be hosted by Jennifer Herron, president of Action Engineering (www.action-engineering.com), a consulting firm that transitions companies to effectively use MBE/MBD. Ms. Herron has more than 15 years of product design experience in the aerospace and defense industry, highlighted by military robot platform design, a patent for a snake propulsion mechanism and large-system CAD integration and design layout for satellites.
Full abstracts and bios for each presentation are available on the CIC website at (www.3dcic.com/agenda-items), along with comments from past attendees, and free access to all presentations and audios from previous events.
Now in its ninth year, CIC is the only vendor-neutral event in the world addressing collaboration and interoperability in manufacturing and business communications. The three-day international event gives attendees a unique opportunity to network, learn and strategize with thought leaders from automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, electronics industries, as well as with representatives from government and defense communities.
