Lunarline Advises Kenyan Officials on Cyber Security

ARLINGTON, Va., May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lunarline discussed options for national level cyber security strategies with 12 senior officials from the Kenyan Ministries of Information and Communications and Finance in December.  Participants included The Honorable Samuel Poghisio, Minister, Ministry for Information and Communications.  

The Kenyan officials were visiting the United States on a ten day Reverse Trade Mission from December 6-17, 2010 with stops in Washington, DC and California. The trip was sponsored by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and organized by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU).  The objective of the visit was to provide information on U.S. cyber security best practices and innovative technologies needed during a critical time of growth of the country's ICT infrastructure. This visit introduced the Kenyan delegation to the steps needed to secure their networks and guide future procurements.

Kenya is currently experiencing rapid growth in their information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure. The connection of the SEACOM cable in 2009 and EASSy cable in 2010 greatly enhanced Kenya's exposure to the worldwide Internet.  With increased exposure to new technologies and high speed information pathways comes increased risk of compromise and the Kenyan officials are seeking to identify and implement a proactive approach to cyber security.

They also discussed payment gateways, capacity building, support networks, and other cyber security practices. Lunarline additionally addressed technologies for cyber security and utilizing technology to secure government processes.
