Valuable Interaction is Highlight of Career Fair
BAYTOWN, Texas, Dec. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB), one of the world's largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, is proud to once again take part in Junior Achievement (JA) Inspire. One of the original supporters of the event, LyondellBasell has joined other companies to introduce middle school students to various career paths.
"Junior high is the best time to connect with students to help them envision career options and opportunities that they may not have been exposed to," said LyondellBasell Chief Executive Officer Bob Patel, who serves on the Board of Directors for JA of Southeast Texas. "JA Inspire allows companies like ours to have face-to-face engagement with a large number of students and highlight the many career paths available in fields from engineering to finance."
Over the course of three days, Lee College hosted 3,000 students from Goose Creek, Barbers Hill, Hardin, Liberty, Dayton, Hull-Daisetta, East Chambers and Anahuac ISDs. LyondellBasell employees held interactive workshops and manned a career booth to showcase the amazing chemistry at the company.
"Not only does JA Inspire empower students to more fully understand their options and make intelligent and informed decisions," said Rick Franke, president of JA of Southeast Texas, "But hearing the details of job requirements and educational paths from people currently in the business gives students the extra inspiration and motivation to plan for their future."
LyondellBasell will also take part in two additional JA Inspire events in 2016. In January, 10,000 students will converge on Kingdom Builders Center in Houston. The following month, more than 8,000 Cypress students will visit JA Inspire at the Berry Center.
LyondellBasell's commitment to Junior Achievement takes place year round. One annual event is JA Finance Park which is hosted at our Refinery. Students step into the adult world for one day and learn how to juggle bills, balance budgets and manage their spending. Every year, dozens of teams gather for JA Bowl-A-Thon which is a popular fundraiser enjoyed by LyondellBasell staff. LyondellBasell team members can also be found on school campuses throughout the year teaching JA classes focused on money management, job creation and work readiness.
