Malt-O-Meal® Annual Cereal Sale to Benefit United Way

ASHEBORO, N.C., Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- It's time for Malt-O-Meal's annual "Cereal Day for United Way!" On Sept. 24, for one day only, the Asheboro plant will sell bags of its family favorite varieties for just $1.

Held from 10:00 a.m. until the cereal runs out in the Randolph Mall parking lot in front of Dillard's, all proceeds from the sale will benefit United Way of Randolph County. Malt-O-Meal's goal is to sell 10,000 bags of cereal, for a maximum donation of $10,000.

"The dedicated work of the United Way of Randolph County and all its volunteers is so important in this community," says Dale Ducommun, Malt-O-Meal's Asheboro plant manager. "We look forward to greeting our neighbors at our cereal sale on Saturday. They've always made us feel welcome in the Asheboro community, and their generosity is demonstrated in their continued support of this sale."

This year marks the second annual Malt-O-Meal cereal sale in Asheboro. Following the success of the program in Minneapolis, which just hosted its ninth sale and raised approximately $50,000 for Greater Twin Cities United Way, Malt-O-Meal has partnered with United Way branches in other areas to host similar sales. In June, the company held a cereal sale in St. Ansgar, IA, which raised more than $8,000 for the United Way of North Central Iowa, and on Oct. 1, the company's Tremonton, UT plant will host its own sale, aiming to raise $24,000, totaling more than $92,000 in expected donations to United Way affiliates across the country.
