SAN FRANCISCO, May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MapD, the GPU-powered database and visualization platform for interactive data analytics, today announced that industry veteran Jonathan Symonds has joined the company as VP of Marketing.
Symonds brings over 16 years of enterprise software marketing experience to MapD and will scale the company's marketing and demand generation efforts following their $10M Series A round.
Founded in 2013, MapD has pioneered an analytics platform that can query and visualize large datasets - up to 100x faster than other systems. By leveraging the massive parallelism of commodity GPUs, it can execute SQL queries over multibillion row datasets with millisecond response times, and optionally visualize the results using the rendering capabilities of the GPUs.
"I am delighted to join such an innovative company at this stage in its development," said Symonds, "MapD's technical leadership in pushing the frontiers of database and visualization performance allows enterprises to tackle data challenges that were previously untenable."
"Adding Jonathan's background and creativity to the management team is a significant development for us as an organization," noted MapD co-founder and CEO Todd Mostak. "Jonathan's extensive experience positioning enterprise analytics solutions across different industries will help us to tell our story more broadly and to accelerate our already rapid growth."
Symonds joins MapD from machine intelligence leader Ayasdi, where he served as the Senior Director of Strategic Marketing. Prior to Ayasdi, Symonds was the EVP of Marketing at advertising analytics provider Ace Metrix and the VP of Strategic Marketing at 2Wire. He earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University and his MBA from Cornell University's Johnson School of Management.
Joining Symonds on the team is Rebecca Kao, a digital marketing expert who will serve as the Director of Marketing. Rebecca joins the MapD team from OgilvyOne where she most recently served as the Director of Marketing Analytics in the Singapore office.
