MassMutual Achieves Top Mark in Human Rights Campaign Annual Survey
Company earns 100 percent rating for fourth consecutive year in 2011 Corporate Equality Index
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) announced today that for the fourth consecutive year, it has received the highest rating of 100 percent in the annual 2011 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) survey conducted by the Human Rights Campaign, which recognizes efforts to establish and encourage workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees (LGBT). MassMutual's 100 percent rating is in recognition of its longstanding commitment to its LGBT employees.
"MassMutual's top score is an acknowledgement of our efforts to integrate diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our business," says Lorie Valle-Yanez, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, MassMutual. "At MassMutual, we view diversity as not only the right thing to do, but as the strategic catalyst that will help grow our company and remain competitive in today's increasingly complex and globally integrated marketplace. Ultimately, we do a better job of understanding, reaching and growing our customer base by being a company that best reflects the diversity in the marketplace."
The 2011 CEI rates 615 businesses. This year, 337 businesses achieved top ratings, up from 305 last year.
MassMutual shows its commitment to diversity and inclusion through its leadership-driven diversity strategy focused on the marketplace, sales force, workforce and workplace. MassMutual has offered domestic-partner benefits since 1998, and includes sexual orientation and gender identity in its non-discrimination policies. The company also requires diversity education and training for managers, and sponsors PRIDE, MassMutual's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies Employee Resource Group, which supports the business by helping the company better serve the LGBT market by assisting with employee recruitment, retention, engagement and development, representing MassMutual in local and national community events, and serving as catalysts for positive change. In addition, the company has produced its first series of marketing materials to help its financial professionals effectively reach the LGBT market.
MassMutual's diversity efforts have recently been recognized by the Boston Bar Association, which awarded the company with its Beacon Award that recognizes organizations or individuals who have had an exceptional impact in advancing diversity and inclusion.
"At MassMutual, we recognize that diversity and inclusion is crucial to ensuring we have the strongest, best and brightest workforce, and enabling us to exceed the expectations of our increasingly diverse policyholders and clients," said Mark Roellig, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, MassMutual and executive sponsor of MassMutual's LGBTA Employee Resource Group. "We are pleased to once again earn a perfect score on this index, as well as to be recognized for our commitment to integrating diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our business, which is essential to our company's long-term success."
