MATC Ordered to Reinstate Former Professor, According to Fox & Fox, S.C.

MADISON, Wis., July 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the objections of his former employer, the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin today ordered the reinstatement of Dr. Michael Dubin, a professor at Madison Area Technical College (MATC), starting the fall semester of 2011.  A federal jury concluded in early May of 2011 that Dr. Dubin had been terminated from his position as a history professor at the college because he had complained of racial and religious discrimination.

The court further awarded Dr. Dubin $255,000 in back pay along with interest and benefits for the two year period since his termination.  The back pay and benefits are in addition to $300,000 in compensatory damages, the maximum allowed under the federal statute governing such awards.

Along with the damage award and reinstatement to his former position, the court ordered that Madison Area Technical College not retaliate against Dr. Dubin as a result of his past complaints of discrimination or as a result of his federal lawsuit.
