HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Medbox, Inc. (Pinksheets: MDBX) (www.medboxinc.com) announced today that the company is receiving more interest about their Safe Storage and Access Lockers as other major companies such as Amazon and ShopRunner are introducing similar systems.
"When a company as large as Amazon introduces a product that is similar to our own, it helps educate the public about the usefulness and benefits of the system," stated Dr. Bruce Bedrick, CEO of Medbox, Inc. "You couldn't ask for a more powerful market introduction."
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Amazon's locker program works fairly simply. Customers who elect to have their items shipped to a locker—typically inside 7-Elevens, grocery or chain drugstores that are open 24-hours—are emailed a code after a package arrives that unlocks the door holding their merchandise. The customer can then retrieve the merchandise at their convenience.
By adding the lockers, Amazon is addressing the concerns of some who may not be home to accept a delivery, or fear their items may be stolen from their doorstep.
Similar to the Amazon unit, the Medbox Safe Storage and Access System consists of a series of secure lockers, which can be used for the storage of a variety of items, and then accessed by an individual with the correct code or entry privileges.
The Medbox system has options for additional security features, such as a biometric fingerprint scanning device, and cameras that record and permanently store visual evidence each time a locker is accessed.
Medbox also has a patented system designed specifically for use in pharmacies and health clinics, which can store medicines in secure lockers and control employee access based on customizable parameters, as well as allow patients to skip the long lines and pick up their prescriptions in a convenient manner.
"We are thrilled that Amazon is introducing the world to the advantages of locker storage and access," Bedrick stated. "Since most of our company's products are cutting-edge, educating the general public as to specific advantages of these systems is necessary. We thank companies like Amazon for increasing consumer awareness."
