MedStar Health Earns Record 11 "Healthiest Maryland Business" Awards

COLUMBIA, Md., Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Eleven MedStar Health hospitals and business units have earned 2025 Wellness at Work Recognition from the state's Healthiest Maryland Businesses program — a new record for the region's largest healthcare provider. The Maryland Department of Health program annually honors state employers demonstrating a deep commitment to workplace wellbeing. Since MedStar Health started participating across eligible teams in 2022, at least nine MedStar Health workplaces have appeared on the list each year.

This year, MedStar Health workplaces represent more than a quarter of the 42 total awardees, including:

• MedStar Harbor Hospital
• MedStar Health Home Care
• MedStar Health Physical Therapy
• MedStar Health Research Institute

• MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center
• MedStar St. Mary's Hospital
• MedStar Union Memorial Hospital

According to Healthiest Maryland Businesses, Wellness at Work Recognition awardees are evaluated on the strength of workplace wellness practices, including the establishment of organizational support, execution of multi-faceted strategies, and implementation of data-driven initiatives.

MedStar Health's record number of recognitions comes as wellbeing leaders, local wellbeing committees, and advocates continue to integrate high-quality resources and programming systemwide. Services like mental health and wellness coaching, career support, physical health initiatives, child and elder care, and much more have been made available to each of MedStar Health's more than 35,000 clinical and non-clinical associates.

The MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing, established in 2021 to develop a supportive and inclusive wellbeing culture at the health system, has been responsible for helping associates overcome feelings of stress or other mental health challenges. In the past year alone, the center has engaged in nearly 30,000 wellbeing interactions, including providing coaching to 1,400 associates, filling back-up care requests for nearly 1,000 associates, and extending workshops or training sessions to over 8,000 participants.

This important acknowledgment of MedStar Health's commitment to associate wellbeing adds to a growing number of national honors like the American Medical Association's Joy in Medicine^™ recognition, Wellness Council of America's gold level Well Workplace award, and American Nurses Credentialing Center's Well-Being Excellence™ credential.
