Medtech Celebrates "Bright Stars" Of Healthcare During Medical Assistants Recognition Week

ATLANTA, Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Medtech Colleges and Institutes will celebrate Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Oct. 21-25, by honoring medical assistants (MAs) for promoting and maintaining beneficial physician-patient relationships across America.

Every October since 1984, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) honors medical assistants for being at the heart of healthcare. A prominent national healthcare education company that proudly educates nurses and medical assistants, Medtech campuses are taking a leading role to raise awareness about the important services medical assistants provide.

Throughout National Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Medtech campuses from the Midwest to metro Washington, D.C., and south to Atlanta and Florida will host celebratory events to honor their students and graduates as "Bright Stars of Healthcare."

Campuses will host events highlighted by hands-on demonstrations of phlebotomy and inoculation skills that will include challenging journalists to show how well they can assist in medical assistant tasks performed on medical mannequins. Media participants will receive proclamations recognizing them as "Medtech Medical Assistants for a Day." Each campus will honor key clinical partners and Medical Assistant program graduates will return to school to offer career insights and advice to current students.

For 2012-13, Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine included medical assisting in its Top 10 rankings for best college majors that can lead to lucrative careers. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook forecasts solid employment opportunities for medical assistant graduates based on the profession's projected 31 percent growth over the next seven years. According to BLS estimates, on average, 16,355 new medical assisting jobs will need to be filled annually through 2020.
