Jim died January 1, in Apple Hill, California, after a long illness. He was 66. Born March 28, 1951, in Arcata, Jim attended Humboldt State University and UC Berkeley and brought his passion for math and physics to politics with his scientific approach to predicting voter behavior. In 1983, he founded J. Moore Methods, Inc., in Sacramento, and went on to become one of California's preeminent Democratic pollsters. For more than 30 years, Jim's clients comprised a who's who of California Democratic politics, from Gov. Jerry Brown to former Senate Leader John Burton to former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown and many others.
Jim also was passionate about the fine Zinfandel grapes he grew on his beloved ranch in Apple Hill. He is survived by his longtime partner in business and in life, Jan Mathews.
