Merit Coffee Company to Open First Houston Coffee Shops in 2026

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Merit Coffee Company, a Texas-based specialty coffee roaster known for its community-driven cafés, is officially expanding into Houston in 2026. The move brings Merit's acclaimed coffee shop experience to a city where a loyal customer base has long awaited a local storefront.

Founded in 2009 in San Antonio, Merit Coffee has grown to operate 13 coffee shops across Texas — including five in San Antonio, three in Austin, and five in Dallas. The company's fresh-roasted beans have already gained a following in Houston through online orders and grocery retail partners such as HEB, Whole Foods Market, and Central Market.

Now, Merit will bring its café atmosphere and barista-led experience to Houston's vibrant coffee scene. Two locations are currently under construction: one in the Houston Heights, and another on Buffalo Speedway, serving the River Oaks and West University neighborhoods. The Buffalo Speedway café is set to open by the end of Q1 2026, with the Heights location following in early summer.
