Microsemi DC-powered PoE Midspans Win the Renewable Energy Design Award at the Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards 2014

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced its DC-powered Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) midspans won the "The Renewable Energy Design Award" in the Exceptional Technical Innovation category at the Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards 2014. The Elektra Awards are run by Electronics Weekly, and are considered among the most prestigious and recognized awards in the industry.

Microsemi's PoE midspans substantially improve the cost and efficiency of deployment of small cells and other DC powered deployments, as utilizing energy from solar panels or in telecom locations often requires this type of power and voltage. Microsemi's DC-powered solutions eliminate customer needs to use AC or an external DC to AC power converter with AC midspans, and with the midspans plug-and-play installation, the devices are easily and cost effectively implemented—thus leveraging an existing Ethernet infrastructure while at the same time providing the assurance of a future proof network.
