VIENNA, Va., June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading Services Provider and Technology Integrator MicroTech today announces a new philanthropic initiative focused on America's military veterans — the "Lean on Me" social media fundraising drive to benefit the Fisher House Foundation; a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need.
To the memorable lyrics of Bill Wither's classic song about the concept of love thy neighbor, for every Facebook "Like," Twitter "Follower" and LinkedIn corporate profile "Follower" on MicroTech's social media platforms, the company will donate $1 dollar to the Fisher House Foundation.
From the launch of MicroTech in 2004, the cause of supporting veterans has been one of the first and highest priorities. Since then, MicroTech (www.MicroTech.net) has been recognized for advocacy efforts, including being named the U.S. Small Business Administration "Veteran Champion of the Year." The Washington Business Journal recognized MicroTech as the Top Private Corporate Philanthropist in Washington DC.
"We're showcasing the power of Social Media while supporting a well-respected, veteran-focused charity like the Fisher House Foundation—it's a win-win," said Tony Jimenez, MicroTech President & CEO. "Fisher House Foundation is the centerpiece of our campaign; they do an amazing job of helping wounded veterans by providing assistance to their families. MicroTech has a long legacy as a major supporter of veterans' causes and this latest initiative is simply another way of helping."
The Fisher House Foundation (www.FisherHouse.org) donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers, enabling family members to be close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. Annually, the program serves more than 17,000 families. MicroTech generously contributed in December 2011 to the National Association of American Veterans (NAAV) in support of the Fisher House Foundation, and sponsored a music festival in February, in Severn, Md., for the not-for-profit organization.
MicroTech's initiatives for veterans' causes consistently reach across the spectrum of good works — from hiring and training, to morale programs and offering extended family support, to supporting wounded warriors in their rehabilitation.
In the last year, MicroTech has hosted contingents of well-known professional athletes to visit wounded troops at military medical facilities in Washington DC, Virginia, and Texas. MicroTech presented the veterans jobs program, "the Heroes Support Brigade," with a generous donation in honor of 9/11 victims at the Pentagon.
MicroTech sponsors the annual American Legion motorcycle ride in support of the Legacy Scholarship Fund for children of single-parent military personnel and the company hosts local Armed Forces personnel at "Military Appreciation Nights" during NBA and NHL games, and at professional mixed martial arts competitions in the Virginia area.
