MicroTech Receives Patent for Hybrid Cloud Appliance

VIENNA, Va., April 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroTech, an information technology and cloud services provider, today announced that it has received cloud computing patent (Patent Number 9,294,552) for its MicroKloud®, a Hybrid Cloud Computing Appliance, from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This is MicroTech's third Cloud Computing Patent and one of several Patents MicroTech has received from the USPTO.

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility over a network. Typically, cloud computing services are offered by cloud computing service providers on a pay-per-usage basis. Cloud computing has evolved into multiple deployment models, including public, community, hybrid and private clouds. A "public cloud" is a model where a service provider makes resources, such as software applications and storage, available to the general public. A "private cloud" is infrastructure operated solely for a single organization or restricted group of users. A "hybrid cloud" is a model that spans two or more cloud models or service providers and overcomes boundaries in order to increase capacity and capabilities.

The MicroKloud® is a cloud computing appliance that accesses both a private cloud and a public cloud and includes a method for initializing the cloud computing appliance, and a method for migrating software applications to the cloud computing appliance. The MicroKloud® includes at least one private cloud and is in electronic communication with at least one public cloud through a remote interface device that allows an IT system administrator to interact with one or more private clouds and one or more public clouds.
