Milwaukee School of Engineering Selects Enterasys IdentiFi™ Wireless for Campus-wide Mobility

ANDOVER, Mass., Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterasys Networks, a Siemens Enterprise Communications Company, today announced that the Milwaukee School of Engineering is using Enterasys solutions to provide improved Wi-Fi coverage for its 12 campus buildings, supporting 2,500 students and 500 faculty members. The school needed to update its old equipment to improve security and support the growing number of devices students were using, turning to Enterasys to meet those needs.

"We knew it was time to deploy more current solutions, and we looked at several vendors," noted Paul Fabian, network security administrator at MSOE. "A colleague at a neighboring college recommended Enterasys, and they came in committed to solving our problems and creating the most efficient network, rather than just offer the most expensive solutions."

MSOE was replacing old controllers that had no encryption capability, and adding new access points that had to work with existing infrastructure elements, to ensure coverage for all their classrooms. Meanwhile, students had been bringing in their own routers because of poor coverage, causing network traffic problems. With the two controllers, 110 access points and switches provided by Enterasys, however, the university is able to accommodate more students than ever before, while offering greatly improved reliability.

"We've gone from accommodating 300 or so students on our wireless network at peak times, to the point where we can comfortably handle triple that capacity," noted Fabian. "I no longer have to worry about the network, and we can evaluate new initiatives, such as the possibility of adding wireless access to student dorms."
