JACKSON, Miss., March 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Select Specialty Hospital – Jackson was awarded Hospital of the Year (100 beds or less) at the Mississippi Nurses Association and Mississippi Nurses Foundation joint Mississippi Nightingale Awards Banquet on March 4, 2013.

This award, which was established in 2006, is presented to the hospital that most distinguishes itself in the areas of professional nursing and innovation in leadership. Nominees are judged on several factors such as  RN participation in management decisions, their support of professional development for RNs; turnover of RN staff and community support for nursing, to name a few criteria.

"We are so proud to be recognized as the best hospital in our category for the state of Mississippi," said Greg Oden, MD, medical director. "This is a reflection of our team approach that focuses on each patient's unique needs and our goal of providing the specialized expertise of a large hospital but with the personalized attention of a much smaller setting."

"We commend Select Specialty Hospital on being selected as the 2013 Hospital of the Year for 100 beds or less, and applaud their dedication to excellent patient care and outstanding leadership," said Rosalyn Howard, M.Ed, executive director of the Mississippi Nurses Foundation.

Koman Foundation, and the Center for Violence Prevention and Stewpot Community Services.

"Our dedication to excellence starts with the men and women who are on the floor, every day working with our patients and their families," said Chandler Ewing, CEO. "We invest a tremendous amount of faith in our nurses and to be recognized in this fashion is a wonderful affirmation of their efforts and our commitment to providing the highest level of care possible."
