The report surveyed 270 U.S. financial services leaders across banks, credit unions, accounting firms, wealth managers, fintechs and investment firms, and it lands on a conclusion the industry has been slow to accept: the biggest obstacles to growth are internal. Leaders ranked difficulty proving the ROI of marketing and technology investments (30 percent) and fragmented or poor-quality data (30 percent) as the top barriers to their growth strategy, ahead of regulatory and compliance constraints (26 percent). Seventy-eight percent said organizational silos, disconnected systems and incomplete client data limit their ability to deliver a modern client experience, yet only half said their CRM is fully integrated with the systems that hold the rest of the client picture.

Other findings the session will cover include:

• Retention and acquisition are running neck and neck as top priorities, at 41 percent and 40 percent respectively, and personalized recommendations and communications are the hardest client expectation to meet.
• AI and automation have overtaken inflation, interest rates and regulation as the number one external force shaping growth strategy. Ninety-seven percent of firms are using AI today or plan to, but fewer than half have it fully operationalized across multiple functions.
• Advanced AI adopters are 68 percent more likely to report significant improvement in client retention over the past year, and 76 percent report full alignment across marketing, sales and client experience teams, compared with 58 percent overall.
• Leaders rank AI and CRM as the two investments most likely to improve their competitive position over the next 12 months, and the report finds the two compound when deployed together on unified client data.
