Moms Work to Keep Pressure on Congress for National Gun Legislation

WASHINGTON, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Members of Congress including Sen. Barbara Boxer (CA), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (CA), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA), Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (NY), Rep. Rosa Delauro (CT), Rep. Elizabeth Esty (CT), Rep. Zoe Lofgren (CA) and a representative from the office of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) will join mothers from more than 30 states for "Moms Take the Hill"™, a grassroots action organized by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (formerly One Million Moms for Gun Control), on Wednesday, March 13 from 2-3 p.m in the Capitol Visitors Center, room HVC 215, also named the "Gabe Zimmerman Room" after the senior staffer to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who was shot and killed in Tucson in 2012.

At the 2 p.m. press event, Moms Demand founder Shannon Watts will call on Congress for immediate action for national gun legislation. Watts created the group in the days following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.  Since then more than 80,000 mothers from 80 chapters around the country have joined the growing movement.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America was created to build support for common-sense gun legislation, and has a simple, four part mission:

• Reinstate the ban on assault weapons and related magazines
• Close gun-show loopholes that encourage private gun sales without background checks
• Set boundaries on how much ammunition a person can purchase
• Limit the scope of concealed weapons laws at the state level.
