Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) is a 210-bed, full-service healthcare facility in western Pennsylvania. With a 225-member medical staff representing more than 40 specialties, MVH needed a clinical reference resource that would deliver high quality decision support that was clinically consistent for all departments.
"We strive to provide our community with excellent healthcare every day," said Susan Campus, nurse educator at MVH. "Micromedex helps us achieve this because our staff can now easily find answers to their complex questions. The breadth and depth of the content found in Micromedex is far superior to what we had with another vendor. We looked at typical as well as unusual clinical scenarios when selecting a clinical reference vendor. For each test, Micromedex provided the best answer, quickly."
The Micromedex solution is used in 3,500 U.S. hospitals and also in 85 countries. It is evidence-based, fully referenced, and provides consistent clinical answers on drugs and drug interactions, disease management, toxicology, alternative medicine, and intravenous drug compatibility, as well as patient education resources. By choosing an integrated source for all of its clinical reference needs, Monongahela Valley will limit resources required to train staff and eliminate the need to support disparate clinical reference systems.
"We were excited when we implemented Micromedex, and so was the pharmacy staff," Campus said. "Our pharmacy staff found Micromedex so easy for finding answers to drug questions, and it's very user friendly. The strength-of-evidence ratings, recommendations, and efficacy ratings for all therapeutic uses for drugs give us a tremendous resource in helping us to deliver high quality, cost effective care."
