Montclair State Public Relations Student Society of America Set to Host Zombie Walk to Raise Money for the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center
Tony Award Winning Designer Linda Cho to Judge Costume Portion of October 22 Event
MONTCLAIR, N.J., Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, October 22, zombies will gather at Dioguardi Field at Montclair State University for the university's inaugural "2K Walking Dead for Life" run to raise money for the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. The event is also a zombie costume competition, which will be judged by Tony Award winning costume designer Linda Cho.
The event is being produced by the university's Public Relations Student Society of America, a professional organization affiliated with the Public Relations Society of America. The MSU/PRSSA is part of the Public Relations program in the School of Communication and Media. The chapter president Sabrina Araullo explains the significance of the event. "This will take place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and my members and I are proud to be able to help the John Theurer Cancer Center in its fight to save the lives of so many women who battle breast cancer each year. So, we hope a lot of people of all ages come on down on October 22."
Those who have pre-registered online are asked to arrive around 11:30 in costume. If you don't have make up, please arrive at 11am so makeup artists who will be on hand can help transform you from a normal person into a zombie for the day. Those who want to register on the day of the event are also asked to arrive at 11am.
Costume winners will be announced after the run portion has ended around 2pm. They will be selected from four age categories – 14 and under, 14-18, 18-25, and 25 and up. The winners will receive tickets to Broadway shows.
Cho won her Tony in 2014 for her costume designs for "Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder." She was also nominated for a 2017 Tony for "Anastasia." In addition, noted film costume designers Amit Gajwani and Carisa Kelly will also be in attendance as judges.
The minimum pledge or registration is $7 for all students (prior to the event), and $10 for adults. Entrants may also pledge $3 per additional lap beyond the 2k distance. Registration will be $10 for the minimum pledge for all attendants on the day of the event.
