National Ag Day: Propane Helps Texas Farmers Navigate Rising Costs & Energy Challenges

AUSTIN, Texas, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- As Texas celebrates National Ag Day on March 18, the Propane Council of Texas (ProCOT) is highlighting the essential role propane plays in the state's agricultural prosperity. From fueling operations to ensuring resilience during unpredictable Texas weather, propane keeps Texas farms and ranches productive, efficient, and prepared for the future.

Texas is not only an agricultural powerhouse—with more than 125 million acres of farmland producing cattle, cotton, poultry, and a variety of crops that feed the nation—but also one of the world's largest propane producers. Reliable energy is critical to keeping this industry moving, and propane is proving to be a smart choice for farmers aiming to reduce costs, maintain operations, and embrace innovative energy solutions.

Agriculture depends on energy, and propane delivers it with both reliability and efficiency. Farmers and ranchers across Texas use propane for a wide range of applications: heating barns and greenhouses, powering irrigation systems (saving up to 40% in the process), providing energy security with backup generators, and fueling other essential farm equipment. Unlike grid-dependent energy sources, propane offers independence—ensuring operations that continue even during extreme weather or power disruptions.

As costs rise and sustainability becomes a growing focus, Texas farmers are seeking practical energy solutions that make economic sense. Propane is a cost-effective fuel that provides long-term savings on equipment and operations.

The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) administers the Propane Farm Incentive Program, which offers financial assistance to help farmers adopt propane-powered equipment. By providing incentives for a variety of farm equipment, the program facilitates the transition to a fuel that delivers both economic and operational benefits.

On National Ag Day, the Propane Council of Texas celebrates the dedication of the state's farmers and ranchers, as well as the innovative solutions that help them thrive. Propane isn't just a fuel—it's a strategic partner in keeping Texas agriculture strong, resilient, and prepared.
